I completely suck as languages! I "discovered" that I didn't have gift for it early in life; I guess my brain is wired for numbers. Nonetheless, I have found that while I lack the ability to speak new languages, I can sometimes understand it fairly quickly (at least conversationally) if the people I'm conversing with speak in both English (my native language) and the foreign language interchangeably.
